How the Blog Works

The concept of a blog is very new to some of our members, and we want to you to know exactly what a blog is, why it’s valuable, how it works and how to participate!

WHAT IS A BLOG?

According to Wikipedia.com, blog is short for “Web Log”.  A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

WHY IT IS VALUABLE?

A blog is important because it allows EMDRIA (us) to communicate with it’s members and others in the EMDR community (you) in a real-time basis.  We can post important EMDRIA updates, EMDR news, etc at any time and it will instantly be available to our readers.  This means that you don’t have to wait for the next EMDRIA e-news or newsletter to receive up to date information on what is happening in the EMDR community.

However, the most exciting aspect of a blog is the interaction it allows its members — which is particularly important with-in a community such as EMDRIA / EMDR.

HOW IT WORKS

So how does a blog work?

When you arrived on the homepage, you saw a listing of articles (note: you may have to scroll down on the page, there are several articles posted on the home page at any give time, the newest are on top) and that is the most important part of the blog.

Once you get an understanding of what everything on a blog page means, you will be prepared to use the blog to it’s fullest potential.

Post: An article posted to the blog

Comment: Anything a user chooses to post in response to the post or another users comment

Category: A group of posts that all share a common over-arching topic

Recent Posts: A list of recently posted articles

Past Posts: A list of all posts, separated by month

Most Popular Posts: A list of the posts that have been read the most

Tag: A label selected by a posts author that can allow for easier searches by users

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Participation on a blog is highly encouraged, and it is designed to be user-friendly.  There are two ways for readers to participate on the EMDRIA blog:

  1. Anyone can leave a comment on a posting. To do so, simply click the word “Comment” at the bottom of that specific post and follow the prompts to complete your comment.  If there are no comments on that post yet, then simply click “No Comments” and follow the prompts.  Your comment will appear below the article as soon as it has been approved by a member of the staff — this is just a precaution against spam and profanity, your comment will not be denied based on your opinions!  For an idea of what can cause your comment to be denied, please click here.

  2. EMDRIA MEMBERS can submit articles to be considered for posting to the EMDRIA blog.  To review submission requirements and directions, please visit the Submit a Post page.
